Scratched lenses have always been a problem with plastic lenses. Even
with scratch resistant coatings, plastic lenses are not as scratch
resistant as glass. While glass lenses don't scratch easily they are
twice as heavy as plastic lenses. This can often cause problems with
glasses being uncomfortable.
TD2 Scratch Resistant Coating is
tough, durable, and two-sided. The two-sided coating eliminates risk of
cracking while effectively performing regardless of the material or
design the TD2 is protecting. The use of the nanocomposite technology
has improved the scratch resistance of TD2 coated lenses against both
light abrasion and deep scratching. The first layer, the adhesion
booster, eliminates any microscopic imperfections on the lens surface
and allows coating of all materials. The second layer, the hard coat
varnish, contains glass like silicate particles in a plastic matrix
providing the unique combination of hardness and flexibility. |

TD2's anti-scratch
lenses are scratch resistant, not scratch proof. No lens is
scratch proof. The only material that appears not to scratch are
diamonds. TD2 stands for TOUGH, DURABLE AND 2-SIDED.
TD2
is a tedious process and goes through a strict quality control
step The lenses are put through a process which applies multiple
layers under pressure in a vacuum, which make plastic and
polycarbonate lenses far more scratch resistant than without
TD2. |
